The prevalence of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) in India is alarming. Every year, approximately 2.2 lakh additional patients with End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) are added to the list of patients requiring dialysis as a number of factors rule out kidney transplant for these patients. The situation is worsened by the inadequate infrastructure for dialysis treatments and the high costs involved, which act as deterrents. According to estimates, almost 90 percent of patients requiring dialysis lose their battle because they cannot afford dialysis costs, which may run up to some INR 3-4 lakhs per year! As awareness of this poor state of affairs grows, efforts are being made by the government as well as private sector in India. The Bhagwan Mahavir Relief Fund Trust at Jasola New Delhi, too is contributing towards this end by making it their mission to provide affordable dialysis services to patients with renal diseases from the weaker sections of society in order to empower their lives through better healthcare facilities.

However, our efforts alone will not be enough to meet the demand that is facing the country. The Dialysis Centre operated by BMRFT is bringing world class treatment for patients with its modest 25-bed facility at present. You too can contribute to this noble cause because it is only with the joint efforts of the public and the private sectors and the community at large that we can truly make a difference in the lives of dialysis patients who need financial assistance to complete their treatment and lead a life of dignity.
